Amid all of the chaos that comes with the opening day of free agency, the Calgary Stampeders looked outside of their roster for help on defense.

On Tuesday, linebackers Micah Teitz and Darius Hodge signed by the Stamps ahead of the 2024 season.

Teitz, the former Saskatchewan Roughrider, began his CFL career when he was selected in the second round of the 2018 CFL Draft. He has produced 158 total tackles and three sacks in 59 games. Last season was his second-best year in the CFL; he finished with 57 defensive tackles and six special teams tackles while playing in all 18 games.

Hodge is entering the CFL world for the first time after playing in the USFL and NFL. He spent last year with the Philadelphia Stars, registering six tackles and a half sack, and he was previously signed by both the Miami Dolphins and the Cincinnati Bengals after going unselected in the NFL Draft.

The team also added CFL All-Star defensive back Demerio Houston and offensive tackle Trevon Tate, whose signings were already reported last week. Defense has been a strong focus for the Stamps as they continue to build through free agency.

CFL players were able to officially sign with teams starting on Tuesday.
