Watch: Mainoo strikes first vs Newcastle with confident close-range finish assisted by Amad

Kobbie Mainoo found himself in the right place at the right time to draw first blood in tonight’s clash between Manchester United and Newcastle United.

Amad Diallo looks as confident as ever in his second successive start of the season after he was preferred to senior counterpart Antony to take to the turf at Old Trafford tonight –  United’s final home outing of 2023/2024.

Alas, the Ivorian displayed his clever footwork to brush past the Magpies’ defence and slot an inch-perfect pass through to Mainoo, who was likely amazed by the amount of time and space he’d been gifted in front of Martin Dubravka’s goal.

Mainoo controlled the ball before slotting it in the bottom left corner in front of the Stretford End, breaking the deadlock in the 31st minute and earning his third Premier League goal.
